About This Scholarship

Western Sydney University offers research scholarships for higher degree research candidates pursuing PhD and Professional Doctorate programmes commencing in Quarter 3 2026. Scholarships are awarded competitively based on research preparation, outputs, proposal suitability, supervision arrangements and equity considerations.

What This Scholarship Covers

  • Stipend of $35,188 AUD per annum for three years
  • Tuition fees covered by Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP)

Who Can Apply

  • 1 Be a new applicant applying to commence a doctoral program, or have commenced a doctoral program in 2026, or have received an offer to commence a doctoral program in Q3 2026
  • 2 Be able to study a full-time PhD program commencing in Q3 2026
  • 3 Be able to be onshore in Australia at the scholarship commencement date
  • 4 For international applicants: must have completed a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) or Master of Research (MRes) degree at Western Sydney University in 2025 or 2026
  • 5 Provide a letter of recommendation from a suitable academic supervisor addressing suitability for the proposed project
  • 6 Meet minimum entrance requirements for the relevant Higher Research Degree

How to Apply

For new applicants: Apply online via the application portal and apply for admission into the relevant PhD degree with option to select Q3 2026 Scholarship Release

For existing PhD candidates who commenced in 2026: Notify the Director HDR in your School/Institute of your intention to apply

Complete an Expression of Interest (EOI) before being invited to submit a full application

Submit full application with all required supporting documentation by the closing date

Applications are assessed by Western Sydney University HDR Scholarship Assessment Panel based on qualifications, research output, proposal suitability, supervision arrangements and equity considerations

Scholarship offers are subject to approval from the relevant School or Institute
