About This Scholarship

The Pulitzer Center AI Accountability Fellowships support journalists from around the world to investigate how governments and corporations use AI technologies and their impact on society, including policing, healthcare, welfare systems, hiring, surveillance, and criminal justice. Fellows receive financial support of up to $25,000, mentorship, training, and engagement support over a 10-month reporting project starting in September 2026.

What This Scholarship Covers

  • Up to $25,000 funding ($20,000 for reporting and $5,000 for engagement activities)
  • Mentorship from experts in various fields
  • Training sessions with peer journalists
  • Access to community of peers across five continents
  • Support for impact plan development and execution

Who Can Apply

  • 1 Must be a journalist from any country
  • 2 Must have a clear reporting project proposal backed by pre-reporting, sources, and a strong investigation plan
  • 3 Must be able to commit to mandatory monthly meetings (1.5-2 hours long)
  • 4 Must contribute to at least one community call during the Fellowship
  • 5 Must engage with other Fellows in virtual meetings and on the community's online platform
  • 6 Encouraged to attend monthly virtual training sessions
