About This Scholarship
ANeSA is a two-stage funding opportunity supporting Implementation Research Teams focused on sustainable, evidence-informed and gender-transformative interventions addressing neglected areas of sexual and reproductive health and rights for under-served populations in sub-Saharan Africa. Up to six grants of up to CAD 1.2 million each will be awarded over up to 36 months.

Who Can Apply
- 1 Principal Applicant must be a sub-Saharan Africa-based researcher (citizen or permanent resident of a sub-Saharan African country) with a position in an eligible African institution
- 2 Implementation Research Team must include a Principal Applicant, Co-Principal Applicant(s) from a Civil Society Organization led by and/or prioritizing under-served populations active in SRHR priority areas
- 3 Team must include a Co-Principal Applicant who is a Decision-maker at relevant local, district, or national level in the same country as the Principal Applicant's institution
- 4 Team must include a Co-Principal Applicant who is an independent researcher based in a Canadian institution
- 5 The affiliated institution of the Principal Applicant must be sub-Saharan African with independent legal status and capacity to administer funds
- 6 United Nations agencies and their country offices are not eligible as Principal Applicant
- 7 Organizations headquartered outside sub-Saharan Africa are not eligible as Principal Applicant
- 8 Research must address at least one of ANeSA's five priority areas: family planning and contraceptive services, safe abortion care and post-abortion care, SRHR rights and services for adolescents, prevention of sexual and gender-based violence, or advocacy for SRHR
