About This Scholarship

The Amsterdam Merit Scholarship (AMS) is offered by the University of Amsterdam to attract outstanding non-EU/EEA students into its international LLM Master’s programmes at the Amsterdam Law School. The scholarship provides €25,900 for the 2026-2027 academic year to support excellent students enrolling in selected law programmes.

What This Scholarship Covers

  • Support for tuition and living costs

Who Can Apply

  • 1 Hold a non-EU/EEA passport
  • 2 Not be eligible for Dutch study grants/loans (Studiefinanciering)
  • 3 Applying to a UvA Master's programme for the first time (not awarded to those who already hold a UvA Master's)
  • 4 Able to comply with Dutch visa regulations as indicated by the Dutch Immigration Service (IND)
  • 5 Enrol as a full-time student at the UvA for the academic year
  • 6 Be admitted to one of the eligible LLM programmes: International and European Law, Transnational and European Private Law, Law & Finance, or International Criminal Law
  • 7 Demonstrate minimum GPA comparable to 4.0 (USA), First class honours (UK), or 8.0 (Dutch EC-system, 10-point scale)

Submit your complete LLM application before 15 January 2027 at 23:59 CET

Submit your complete scholarship application via the UvA portal before 15 January 2027 at 23:59 CET

Upload required documents: academic records (transcripts of all years including GPA), CV, and letter of motivation (maximum 500 words)

In the motivation letter, explain the reasons for choosing the specific Master's programme and the importance of receiving the scholarship
5
If applying for both AMS and Mr Julia Henriëtte Jaarsma-Adolfs Fund Scholarship, indicate this in the form (only one motivation letter required)

Receive decision notification by end of March 2027
