About This Scholarship

The Afreximbank-Edordu Research Competition invites postgraduate students (Master’s and PhD) from across Africa and eligible Caribbean states to produce rigorous, original research on trade, finance, integration, and sustainable development. Winning research is translated into actionable policy briefs and presented to Afreximbank leadership and at major Bank events.

What This Scholarship Covers

Who Can Apply

  • 1 Must be a postgraduate student (Master's or PhD level)
  • 2 Must be currently enrolled at an accredited tertiary institution on the African continent or in an eligible CARICOM state
  • 3 Must hold nationality of an African country or an eligible CARICOM state
  • 4 Research paper must be original and unpublished
  • 5 Paper must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere at the time of submission
  • 6 Paper must address one of the announced competition themes
  • 7 Paper must be between 3,000 and 5,000 words (excluding references, tables and figures)
  • 8 Paper must follow a recognised academic citation style (APA, Chicago, or Harvard)

How to Apply

Submit a complete original research paper of 3,000–5,000 words as a PDF or Word document

Paper is screened for eligibility, formatting, and plagiarism

Jury anonymously reviews and scores papers against rubric covering originality, methodological rigor, clarity, contribution to development, and relevance to Afreximbank's operations

Top three winners are invited to extract an implementable policy brief from their research

Winners present findings at a forum designated by the Bank
7
Winners formally approved by Afreximbank's Internal Working Group before public announcement
