About This Scholarship
The NIAS Safe Haven Fellowship is a fully funded five-month research fellowship in Amsterdam designed for scientists, academics, journalists, authors, and artists from developing regions who face difficulties conducting independent research due to conflict or persecution. Fellows receive accommodation, monthly stipends, office facilities, and access to research resources while participating in academic seminars, workshops, and community events.
What This Scholarship Covers
- Monthly stipend of €3,500
- Return travel expenses reimbursement (subject to programme limits)
- Subsidized accommodation in Amsterdam or commuting travel expense reimbursement
- Office with phone, laptop, printer, and internet connection at subsidized rates
- Communal lunch
- Free library services
- Access to research facilities
- Participation in NIAS community events and seminars
Who Can Apply
- 1 Must be from Africa, Asia, the Middle East, the Caribbean, or Latin America
- 2 Must not be affiliated with institutions boycotted by the Dutch state
- 3 For scientific proposals: minimum 3 years of research experience after completing a PhD degree
- 4 For artistic, journalistic, or writing-focused proposals: minimum 7 years of professional experience in the field
- 5 Proposed project must fall within humanities or social sciences
- 6 Must have command of the English language
