About This Scholarship
The Universiti Malaya Bright Scholarship supports outstanding local and international students pursuing a full-time Doctor of Philosophy by research at Universiti Malaya, Malaysia’s oldest and most prestigious public research university. Selected scholars receive a complete tuition fee waiver for seven semesters and a monthly stipend of RM3,500 for up to 42 months.

- Access to UM supervisors, research groups, laboratories, libraries and academic facilities
Who Can Apply
- 1 Applicants may be Malaysian or international candidates
- 2 Must intend to pursue a full-time PhD by research at Universiti Malaya
- 3 Must not be more than 30 years old at the time of application
- 4 Must come from a strong academic background
- 5 Must hold a bachelor's degree with a CGPA above 3.70 or its equivalent
- 6 Should hold a master's degree by research or a relevant mixed-mode master's degree with a CGPA of at least 3.70 or its equivalent
- 7 Must meet the English language requirement where applicable (IELTS Academic: at least 6.5, TOEFL: 73–93 range, or CEFR: at least B2)
- 8 Must not be receiving another scholarship or sponsorship that overlaps with the UM Bright Scholarship
- 9 Must satisfy the research, faculty and admission requirements of Universiti Malaya
- 10 Should have a proposed research area that can be supervised at UM
