About This Scholarship
Canon Collins Trust invites applications for postgraduate study (Masters and PhD) in South Africa for 2027, with funding available for up to two years for Masters and three years for PhD in priority areas of Justice, Education policy and practice, and Humanities. Applicants must be nationals or recognised refugees of Southern African countries and demonstrate sustained commitment to social justice.

Who Can Apply
- 1 Be a national of, or hold recognised refugee status in, one of the following countries: Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, or Zimbabwe
- 2 Be ordinarily resident in one of the above countries
- 3 Be applying for, or currently enrolled in, a Master's or PhD programme at a South African university
- 4 Hold, or expect to obtain in the year of application, a good Honours degree (minimum Second Class Upper Division or equivalent) for Master's study, or a good Master's degree for PhD study
- 5 Demonstrate a sustained commitment to social justice through at least two years of active engagement in activities addressing social, educational, economic, environmental, cultural, or human rights challenges
- 6 Be pursuing studies or research that contribute to understanding, responding to, or addressing a significant social justice challenge affecting Southern Africa
- 7 For PhD applicants: have identified a supervisor (or prospective supervisor) who has agreed in principle to supervise the proposed research and submit a draft research proposal
