About This Scholarship
The University of Michigan African Presidential Scholars Program (UMAPS) brings early career faculty from African universities to Ann Arbor, Michigan for a five-month residence. The program supports the development of the next generation of African scholars by integrating them into international academic networks and promoting U-M’s international commitment to research and teaching collaborations across diverse disciplines.
What This Scholarship Covers
- Housing (private room and bath in suite setting)
- Medical insurance
- Research allowance
- Monthly stipend to cover living costs
- Round-trip airfare
Who Can Apply
- 1 Be an early career faculty member who has taught in the higher education system for less than ten years
- 2 Be presently teaching in a college or university in Africa
- 3 Be employed in an ongoing position at a university or college in Africa
- 4 Be able to demonstrate support from home institution with a letter of recommendation from head of department, dean, or vice chancellor
- 5 Be able to remain in residence for five months
- 6 Not be a previous recipient of the UMAPS fellowship
- 7 Preference given to applicants without extensive international experience outside the continent
