About This Scholarship

University of St Andrews offers postgraduate scholarships for both Master’s and PhD programmes, with the St. Leonard’s Master’s Scholarship providing funding from 25% tuition support to full tuition plus £18,000 stipend, and the World-Leading Doctoral Scholarships offering up to six fully funded awards covering full tuition and annual stipend. Awards are based on academic excellence, leadership, wider accomplishment, and strategic research importance, with consideration given to financial need and contextual factors.

  • Annual stipend (£20,467 for 2026-2027 for doctoral)
  • Partial to full tuition for Master's scholarship (25%-100%)

  • Employability allowance up to £2,000 (for Leadership Master's award)

Who Can Apply

  • 1 Must have applied for a PhD programme at St Andrews (for doctoral scholarship)
  • 2 Must be studying a qualified one-year taught master's degree, one-year research master's programme, or some two-year research master's degrees with a taught first year (for Master's scholarship)
  • 3 Must have overseas fee status or be a UK student
  • 4 Must not hold a doctorate or be enrolled in a doctoral programme elsewhere (for doctoral scholarship)
  • 5 Academic quality is the primary selection criterion
  • 6 For World-Leading Doctoral Scholarships, proposed research must advance the university's world-leading strategic topics
