About This Scholarship
The Harvard Berenson Fellowship is a 4-6 month residential research fellowship at Villa I Tatti in Florence for scholars whose research explores Italy’s transnational connections with other cultures during the Renaissance. Up to four fellowships are awarded annually to support early and mid-career scholars working on projects with strong potential for original research results.
What This Scholarship Covers
- Monthly grant of USD 5,200
- One-time relocation supplement of up to USD 1,800
- Rent-free apartment (when available) with fellow responsible for utilities
- Housing subsidy if apartment unavailable
- Access to Harvard Center's scholarly resources
- Seven-day-a-week access to Biblioteca Berenson
- Own desk or carrel in the library
- Monday to Friday lunch with other appointees
- Opportunity to participate in conferences, lectures, concerts, and other academic activities
- International networking with scholars and academics
Who Can Apply
- 1 Must have a PhD at the time of application
- 2 Must upload a scan of PhD certificate
- 3 Cannot be working on a second PhD at the time of application
- 4 Must work solely on the proposed project during the fellowship
- 5 Must be conversant in English and have familiarity with Italian
- 6 Must be able to carry out most of research in Florence
- 7 Scholars from all nations can apply
- 8 Should not have previously held a Term Fellowship at I Tatti, except Graduate Fellows
- 9 Proposed project should have strong potential to produce original research results
- 10 Priority given to early and mid-career scholars
- 11 Special consideration given to candidates without regular access to research materials and facilities in Italy
- 12 Fellowship cannot be deferred and can only be held once
