About This Scholarship

The 2026 GDPC Spotlight Research Grants Program provides USD $10,000 to university-affiliated researchers from low- and middle-income countries conducting original studies on the responsible and ethical use of technology in humanitarian contexts. Research projects may last up to eight months and must align with priority areas including community needs and digital realities, ICT solution feasibility, and data protection in humanitarian action.

What This Scholarship Covers

  • USD $10,000 research grant
  • Translation costs (if conducting research in English or French)

Who Can Apply

  • 1 Must be affiliated with an accredited university as a PhD candidate, post-doc, or faculty member
  • 2 Must be a national of a low- or middle-income country
  • 3 Research must be focused on LMIC contexts
  • 4 Must work within social science or humanities disciplines (e.g., sociology, anthropology, psychology, law, human geography)
  • 5 Research must be original and plagiarism-free
  • 6 Must complete the project between 1 November 2026 and 30 June 2027
