About This Scholarship
The Africa Climate Collaborative offers up to 12 fully funded four-year PhD fellowships in Climate and Development at the University of Cape Town, starting in 2027. The programme combines one year of structured pre-doctoral coursework with three years of doctoral research, designed to develop African researchers and leaders addressing climate change and development challenges.
What This Scholarship Covers
- Annual stipend and tuition fees (R315,000)
- Relocation support (up to R75,000)

Who Can Apply
- 1 Must be interested in supervising PhD research aligned with climate and development mission (for supervisors submitting topic proposals)
- 2 Primary supervisor must be eligible to supervise PhD students at UCT academic departments per departmental and faculty rules
- 3 At least two supervisors required per topic proposal, with one designated as primary supervisor
- 4 Proposed research must address climate and development challenges relevant to Africa
- 5 Research topics should be needs-driven or problem-driven with direct relevance to non-academic audiences
