About This Scholarship
The AWIS Program is a prestigious 11-month fellowship designed to empower early-career African women scientists working in freshwater and aquatic research across the African Great Lakes region. Participants receive world-class mentorship, leadership training, scientific capacity building, and international exposure to accelerate their careers in sustainability and aquatic science.

Who Can Apply
- 1 Must be a woman scientist from the ten riparian countries of the African Great Lakes region
- 2 Must be actively working on freshwater-related issues, aquatic ecosystems, fisheries, wetlands, tributaries, or associated water systems
- 3 Must be conducting research or studies connected to the African Great Lakes or transferable freshwater systems in the region
- 4 Early-career scientist status required
