About This Scholarship
The AIReKEMA Research Fellowships support African scholars, refugee leaders, and Indigenous community researchers to conduct original research on how Indigenous knowledge systems and refugee-led initiatives can address migration challenges and foster peacebuilding across African border regions. Selected fellows receive mentorship, funding, and opportunities to translate research findings into policy-relevant outputs.
What This Scholarship Covers
- US$11,000 fellowship stipend
- US$1,800 research expense fund
- Part-time appointment for 12 months
- Academic mentorship from regional and international supervisors
- Co-supervision by faculty members from Carleton University and regional hubs
- Participation in project activities and workshops
- Remote access to Carleton University Library resources
- Opportunities to engage policymakers and regional organizations
- Support in translating research findings into policy-relevant outputs
Who Can Apply
- 1 Must be a postgraduate student at Master's or PhD level, or an early-career scholar
- 2 May be a community leader with demonstrated experience in migration and refugee-related research themes
- 3 Must have a proven record of engagement with migration, refugee, or policy issues
- 4 Must demonstrate interest in border governance and peacebuilding
- 5 Must present a clear vision for how the fellowship will advance professional and research goals
