About This Scholarship

The Amirana Scholarship is an emergency funding programme at Heidelberg University designed exclusively for international medical and dental students from low and middle-income countries of the Global South who face sudden financial hardship or need support in the final phase of their studies. The scholarship provides short-term financial assistance (up to one year) to help students remain enrolled, complete clinical training, and graduate.

What This Scholarship Covers

Who Can Apply

  • 1 Must be enrolled in Medicine or Dentistry at Heidelberg University (Heidelberg or Mannheim campus)
  • 2 Must originate from low and middle-income countries of the Global South (per OECD DAC list)
  • 3 Must demonstrate temporary financial hardship due to circumstances beyond own control (e.g., family emergency, loss of sponsorship, currency collapse)
  • 4 Must not be an educational resident in Germany
  • 5 Must have experienced financial distress through no fault of own that would prevent continuation or successful completion of studies without temporary financial assistance
