About This Scholarship

The Berenson Fellowship is a residential research fellowship at Harvard University’s Villa I Tatti in Florence, Italy, offering scholars the opportunity to conduct original research on the connections between Italy and the wider world during the Renaissance (14th–17th centuries). The fellowship provides USD 5,200 monthly funding plus a relocation supplement, with up to four awards available annually, and emphasizes transnational exchanges, cultural dialogues, and global connections involving Italy.

Who Can Apply

  • 1 Applicants must be scholars proposing original research on the connections between Italy and other regions during the Renaissance (14th–17th centuries)
  • 2 Research must address the theme "Italy in the World" examining transnational exchanges, encounters, dialogues, and cultural relationships
  • 3 Projects should demonstrate how Italy was connected to wider intellectual, cultural, artistic, political, scientific, or social networks
  • 4 Research must fit within the intellectual scope of I Tatti and its supported disciplines (Architecture and the Arts, History, Philosophy, Literature, Music, History of Science)
  • 5 Applicants from all countries are welcome to apply
