About This Scholarship
The Christine and Ian Bolt Scholarship supports postgraduate students at the University of Kent pursuing taught or research degrees with a focus on American studies or research conducted in the United States. Successful applicants receive up to £10,000 to support a sustained period of research in America for up to one year, or to access digital and electronic research materials from the USA.
What This Scholarship Covers
- Up to £10,000 towards tuition fees and research costs
- Funding for sustained research period in the United States (up to one year)
- Access to digital and electronic research materials from the USA for those unable to travel
- Possibility of additional one-year funding in exceptional circumstances
Who Can Apply
- 1 Hold an excellent bachelor's degree with first-class (1st) or upper second-class (2.1) honours, or a master's degree with merit or distinction
- 2 Hold a course offer for September 2026/27 for a full-time or part-time postgraduate research or taught degree at the University of Kent, OR be a current Kent postgraduate student
- 3 Be enrolled in one of the listed Academic Schools: Kent Law School, School of Arts and Architecture, School of Humanities, School of Psychology, The Language Centre, School of Social Sciences, or Degree courses within the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology
- 4 Have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and be able to explain projects clearly without jargon
- 5 Demonstrate passion for their project and ability to convince panel of the project's wider value
- 6 Be willing to act as ambassador for the University and their subject
- 7 Be available for video interview via Microsoft Teams in late August or September 2026
- 8 Preference given to candidates who have not had the opportunity to live or study for an extended period in the USA
