About This Scholarship
The Coimbra Group Scholarship Programme offers short-term research visits of 1-3 months maximum to early-career researchers from Sub-Saharan Africa to conduct research at participating European universities. The programme aims to support scholars in continuing their research while fostering academic and research collaborations with European institutions, with female candidates encouraged and prioritised.
What This Scholarship Covers

Who Can Apply
- 1 Be born on or after 1 January 1981
- 2 Be a national and current resident of a Sub-Saharan African country (not already living and/or studying in Europe)
- 3 Be an academic staff member of a university or equivalent higher education institution in Sub-Saharan Africa
- 4 Preferably hold doctoral/postdoctoral or equivalent academic status
- 5 Obtain an acceptance letter/email from a supervisor at the host university confirming their willingness to supervise the work programme during the research stay
- 6 Apply through the Coimbra Group electronic application process
- 7 Submit only one application to a single university
- 8 Submit all information in English
- 9 Confirm country eligibility with the specific host university's remarks section
