About This Scholarship

The University of Manchester offers Equity and Merit Scholarships to academically excellent students from the Global South who demonstrate potential to drive sustainable development in their home countries. The programme supports both full-time on-campus study (one year) and part-time distance learning (three to five years) across engineering, environment, health sciences, global development, education and law.

What This Scholarship Covers

  • Full tuition fees
  • Return international airfares (for on-campus students)
  • Living expenses (for on-campus students)
  • Visa costs (for on-campus students)

Who Can Apply

  • 1 Must be a resident citizen of Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, or Zimbabwe
  • 2 Must hold a bachelor's degree from a recognised institution with required grades, awarded before September 2025
  • 3 Must have at least two years' professional experience related to chosen field of study (unpaid internships and voluntary work do not count)
  • 4 Must be committed to returning home and demonstrate potential to make positive impact in home country
  • 5 Must have clear understanding of how studying at Manchester will benefit career and wider community
  • 6 Must not have previously studied outside of Africa (training of six months or less does not count)
  • 7 Particularly encouraged for women applicants
