About This Scholarship
The Francis H. Brown African Scholarship provides financial support to East African researchers and graduate students pursuing research in earth sciences and botany related to human origins. The scholarship aims to strengthen scientific capacity in East African institutions while honoring the legacy of pioneering geologist Dr. Francis H. Brown.
What This Scholarship Covers
- Up to $30,000 per award cycle
- Fieldwork travel costs
- Living expenses during research periods
- Scientific research supplies and equipment
- Project-specific operational costs
Who Can Apply
- 1 Must be of African heritage and citizen of Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, Djibouti, Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia, Mozambique, Malawi, or Eritrea
- 2 Must be enrolled in a graduate degree program at an accredited institution (preferably in sub-Saharan Africa) OR have completed a PhD within the past ten years at time of application
- 3 Must be pursuing research in earth sciences and/or botany related to human origins
- 4 Must demonstrate commitment to teaching and research within home country after completing studies
