About This Scholarship
The Matsumae International Foundation Research Fellowship Program 2027 is a fully funded research fellowship for PhD holders from non-Japanese countries to conduct research at Japanese institutions for six months. The fellowship aims to nurture promising researchers who will contribute to solving issues in their home countries while promoting international academic exchange and goodwill.
What This Scholarship Covers
- Monthly allowance JPY 220,000 for research activities and living expenses
- Arrival fund JPY 120,000
- Round-trip economy class airfare to Tokyo
- Overseas travel insurance with medical treatment and death benefits
- Study tour to Hiroshima
Who Can Apply
- 1 Must be of non-Japanese nationality
- 2 Must empathize with the core values of the Matsumae International Foundation
- 3 Must have a full-time occupation in home country and commit to returning and contributing to home country development upon fellowship completion
- 4 Must hold a Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) at the time of application
- 5 Must be 45 years old or younger at the time of application (born in or after 1981)
- 6 Should not have past or current experience of staying in Japan except for short-term visits such as sightseeing or conferences
- 7 Must obtain acceptance from a host institution in Japan before applying
- 8 Must have sufficient English or Japanese language ability
