About This Scholarship

The UKZN HEARD PhD Scholarship 2027 offers fully funded doctoral research opportunities linked to the Horizon Europe-funded ComBaScale project, focusing on implementation science and health system strengthening for cardiovascular disease prevention and management in Lesotho. The scholarship supports researchers from Lesotho and Southern African countries to contribute to evidence-based health policies and sustainable healthcare solutions across Africa.

Who Can Apply

  • 1 Must be from Lesotho (preferred) or Southern African countries (secondary consideration)
  • 2 Must have strong interest in health equity and social justice

  • 4 Must have interest in mixed-methods research
  • 5 Must have interest in community health systems
  • 6 Must have interest in public health innovation
  • 7 Must be willing to undertake periodic field visits to Lesotho during important project stages including baseline assessments, endline evaluations, and implementation activities

Prepare required documents including motivation letter with advert reference number, comprehensive CV, certified academic qualifications, full transcripts, English translations where applicable, SAQA evaluation for non-South African qualifications, certified passport/ID copy, and two reference letters (at least one academic)
