About This Scholarship

The University of Bayreuth Humboldt Centre Scholarship supports international researchers holding a PhD to conduct innovative research projects at the University of Bayreuth in collaboration with a local host faculty member. The programme offers Starter Grants of €10,000 with potential follow-up Booster Grants of €20,000, along with institutional support including dedicated office and laboratory workspace.

Who Can Apply

  • 1 Must hold a completed PhD degree with official diploma issued
  • 2 Must be affiliated with a university or research institution located outside of Germany
  • 3 Must identify and secure a local host (faculty member or researcher) at University of Bayreuth prior to application submission
  • 4 Proposed research project must demonstrate exceptional scientific quality, innovation, and strong potential for long-term international networking
  • 5 Female scholars and researchers contributing to academic diversity are strongly encouraged to apply

How to Apply

Identify and connect with a local host researcher at University of Bayreuth

Obtain written agreement from the local host to collaborate on the research project

Submit application including research proposal demonstrating academic excellence and innovation

Provide evidence of PhD completion with official diploma
5
Document institutional affiliation outside Germany

Upon acceptance, sign Declaration of Acceptance to commence the grant
7
Make first visit to University of Bayreuth within one year of official acceptance
8
Submit final report 15 months after grant acceptance
