About This Scholarship

The Urban Studies Foundation International Fellowships 2026 support early-to-mid-career urban scholars from the Global South to undertake a visiting sabbatical period at a host university of their choice for writing up existing research findings into publishable articles, book chapters, and/or books. The fellowship aims to advance global urban studies, strengthen scholarship from the Global South, foster collaboration, and develop research leadership while promoting epistemic justice and diverse global understandings.

What This Scholarship Covers

  • Full funding for sabbatical period at host university
  • Support for writing up existing research findings
  • Mentorship from an expert in candidate's field
  • Integration into research communities and networks at host institution

Who Can Apply

  • 1 Must be an early-to-mid-career urban scholar from the Global South
  • 2 Must have fully completed/passed PhD (including viva and post-corrections) at time of application
  • 3 Must have completed PhD less than ten years ago (or provide evidence of justified career break)
  • 4 Must be a national of a country on the Global South qualification list
  • 5 Must currently reside and have institutional affiliation in a Global South country
  • 6 Must be familiar with urban studies discipline and have relevant publications
  • 7 Research must be based on existing and completed primary data collection and analysis
  • 8 Must be fully released from existing obligations and responsibilities during fellowship period
