About This Scholarship

The Harvard Radcliffe Institute Fellowship Program offers scientists, writers, scholars, public intellectuals, and artists a rare opportunity to pursue ambitious projects for a full academic year in a vibrant interdisciplinary setting amid the resources of Harvard University. The program welcomes innovative work that confronts pressing social, scientific, and policy issues, with particular interest in proposals addressing academic freedom and connecting across difference.

Who Can Apply

  • 1 Must have received a doctorate (PhD, MD, JD, DPhil, or DEd) or equivalent in the area of proposed project at least four years prior to fellowship appointment (December 2023 for 2027-2028 fellowship year)
  • 2 For humanities and social sciences applicants: must have published a monograph or at least two articles in refereed journals or edited collections
  • 3 Not currently enrolled in a degree program
  • 4 Not a former Harvard Radcliffe fellow (1999-present)
  • 5 Must meet discipline-specific eligibility criteria for chosen application area

How to Apply

Register as a new user on the Online Fellowship Application Portal with name, email address, and password

Log in and select an application area: Humanities and Social Sciences, Creative Arts, Nonfiction and Journalism, or Science, Engineering, and Mathematics

Complete the application form

Upload curriculum vitae

Submit 1,400-word project proposal with bibliography when appropriate

Upload writing or work sample

Provide contact information for three references who will be prompted via email to upload letters of recommendation

Submit all materials via the online application portal before the deadline
