About This Scholarship
The Canon Foundation Japan-Africa Research Fellowship Programme supports post-graduate scholars from Japan and Africa to conduct research in African Studies at institutes in partner countries, with a focus on people-to-people projects that support development through scientific research and bilateral knowledge exchange. Fellowships are available for a minimum of 6-8 weeks up to a maximum of 1 year, with financial support ranging from €22,500 to €27,500 per year (pro-rated for shorter periods).
What This Scholarship Covers
- Research grant (€22,500–€27,500 per year, pro-rated for shorter periods)
- Host institution support including research/work facilities and supervision
Who Can Apply
- 1 Must be a citizen or permanent resident of Japan or an African country
- 2 Must have completed at least a Master's degree within the 10 years preceding application
- 3 Must hold the Master's degree at the time of submission
- 4 Do not need to be enrolled or employed at time of applying
- 5 African and Japanese researchers currently residing and/or working in Europe are eligible
- 6 Preference given to applicants planning to travel to Japan/Europe/Africa rather than extending current stays
