About This Scholarship
The MPhil in Violent Histories and Repair is a specialized two-year postgraduate programme designed to equip emerging scholars with theoretical, methodological, and practical tools to examine the complex consequences of violence across generations. Funded by South Africa’s National Research Foundation, the scholarship supports academically outstanding students pursuing advanced research into violent histories, transgenerational trauma, and psychosocial healing within an interdisciplinary academic environment.

Who Can Apply
- 1 Must hold an Honours degree or equivalent qualification before the MPhil programme begins
- 2 Must have achieved a minimum final mark of 65% in Honours degree
- 3 Must have completed Honours degree no earlier than 2024
- 4 Must be able to provide proof of graduation or confirmation from supervisor indicating expected graduation by end of 2026 academic year
- 5 Must demonstrate strong commitment to postgraduate education and research
- 6 Must demonstrate genuine interest in exploring issues related to violent histories, trauma, memory, justice, healing, and repair
- 7 Must show willingness to contribute actively to collaborative research community
- 8 Must demonstrate intellectual curiosity and engagement with decolonial scholarship
