About This Scholarship
The Gerda Henkel Foundation Research Scholarships support advanced researchers in the historical humanities to conduct independent research projects lasting 1-24 months. Funding covers personal working hours with optional support for travel, materials, family allowance, and student assistants.

Who Can Apply
- 1 Must hold a PhD or habilitation (or equivalent qualification)
- 2 Must have completed PhD within the last 10 years
- 3 Must have published the PhD thesis
- 4 Must propose a project clearly different from PhD topic
- 5 Must not be receiving a salary or pension during the scholarship period
- 6 Must not resubmit previously rejected projects
- 7 Must wait at least 5 years after a prior Gerda Henkel scholarship before reapplying
- 8 Must wait at least 3 years after a rejected application before reapplying
- 9 Open to applicants from any country; nationality does not matter
