About This Scholarship

Are you a Kenyan professional in the water sector with a passion for sustainable groundwater management? Here’s a life-changing opportunity! The Government of Kenya, through the Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation (MoWSI) and in partnership with the World Bank under the Horn of Africa Groundwater for Resilience Project, is offering 20 fully funded Master’s scholarships to empower water sector professionals with advanced, technical, and policy-level skills to safeguard Kenya’s groundwater future.

🌍 About the HoAGW4RP Initiative

The HoAGW4RP is a five-year project (2022–2027) designed to sustainably manage groundwater resources across the arid and semi-arid counties of Turkana, Wajir, Garissa, Marsabit, and Mandera. The program targets over 1.5 million rural residents through aquifer mapping, policy development, and professional capacity building.

🎓 Scholarship Program Overview

  • Build local capacity to tackle challenges like water scarcity, pollution, and transboundary governance

✅ Eligibility Criteria

  • Kenyan citizen aged 40 or below
  • Bachelor’s degree with at least upper second-class honours
  • Minimum 2 years’ relevant work experience in the water sector
  • Available full-time for 2 years of study
  • No previous government-funded Master’s scholarship
  • Employer support letter confirming study leave
  • Admission into one of the eligible programs
  • Bonus: Applicants from MoWSI, RCGW, WRA, WSTF, or counties (Turkana, Mandera, Marsabit, Garissa, Wajir)

📝 Application Process: 3 Easy Phases

Phase 1: Apply to University

Apply for admission to your chosen program through the university portal or eCitizen.

Phase 2: Submit Scholarship Application

Once admitted, send the following to hoa@rcgw.go.ke with subject “APPLICATION FOR THE HOA MSc SCHOLARSHIP”:

  • Admission letter (MSc)
  • CV, certified transcripts, and academic certificates
  • Motivation letter (max 1 page)
  • Employer’s support letter
  • National ID or passport
  • Concept note (max 1000 words) on a groundwater/water resource challenge

Phase 3: Final Evaluation & Selection

Applications will be evaluated by RCGW and university committees. Admission does not guarantee scholarship.
