About This Scholarship
The AfricaLics Visiting PhD Fellowship Programme supports African PhD students working in Innovation and Development by strengthening their academic and research capabilities through a combination of online activities and a 3-month in-person study visit at the University of Johannesburg. The programme includes mentoring from scholars in the AfricaLics and Globelics communities, with activities spanning from February 2027 through early 2028.

Who Can Apply
- 1 Must be enrolled as a PhD student at an African university
- 2 Must be from an African country classified by OECD/DAC as low or lower-middle-income
- 3 PhD research must focus on the relationship between innovation and economic, social or environmentally sustainable development
- 4 Should preferably have completed first year of PhD studies by December 2026
- 5 Must have already secured basic funding for PhD studies at home university
- 6 Research can be from any disciplinary background (economics, social sciences, STEM, etc.) as long as it addresses innovation and development
