The Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellowship supports early-career researchers combining artificial intelligence and machine learning with groundbreaking scientific research at the University of Oxford. Fellows receive mentorship, access to world-class research facilities, and support to develop innovative interdisciplinary projects across mathematical, physical, life, and medical sciences.
What This Scholarship Covers
- Salary on University of Oxford Grade 7 salary scale
- Consumables and small equipment (less than £10k for fellowship period)
- Computing equipment (up to £2k for laptop and peripherals)
- Travel costs (up to £2k per year)
- Visa and NHS Surcharge coverage
- 100% direct costs plus 10% overhead to host department
- Priority access to Advanced Research Computing service
- Mentorship and training in AI/ML techniques
- Access to Oxford's research environment
Who Can Apply
- 1 Must have completed or be due to complete a DPhil or PhD by the appointment date
- 2 Must hold a doctoral degree in Mathematical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, or Medical Sciences
- 3 Must have a promising research idea that could significantly benefit from AI or machine learning
- 4 Must possess sufficient understanding of AI concepts to explain how AI could improve research
- 5 Must demonstrate awareness of ethical implications associated with AI applications
- 6 Must secure support from an Oxford faculty member (PI) in an MPLS department willing to host you
- 7 Should have identified an AI/ML academic mentor who is a faculty member or senior researcher in an eligible Oxford department
