About This Scholarship

The FRIAS Sustainable Governance Senior Fellowship Programme invites experienced African researchers with a doctoral degree and minimum eight years of post-doctoral experience to conduct independent research projects at the University of Freiburg. Fellows gain access to the university’s resources, networks, and academic community while conducting full-time research on sustainable governance topics.

Who Can Apply

  • 1 Must hold a completed doctoral degree
  • 2 Must have a minimum of eight years of post-doctoral experience
  • 3 Must have at least 5 peer-reviewed publications since 1 January 2017, with at least one as author or co-author
  • 4 Must be based in an African country at time of application
  • 5 Must have at least six months of research or study experience at academic institutions in a country different from the country of first academic degree
  • 6 Must have received a Master's or PhD in an African country
  • 7 Research project must be in Humanities and Social Sciences with thematic focus on sustainable governance
  • 8 Must obtain a letter of cooperation from an academic partner at University of Freiburg
  • 9 Can be of any nationality but must be based in an African institution

Fill in candidate and project information in online application form (abstract, Layman's abstract, ethical issue table, motivation statement)

Upload project proposal (maximum 3000 words including footnotes, headers, footers, and bibliographical references, with up to 4 graphs) in PDF format

Upload CV in tabular form using mandatory template provided in application portal

Obtain and submit letter of cooperation from academic partner at University of Freiburg
