About This Scholarship

Iowa State University offers merit scholarships to international first-year and transfer students based on academic excellence and demonstrated accomplishments. Scholarship amounts range from $2,000–$10,000 per year, with total awards up to $40,000 for first-year students and up to $20,000 for transfer students.

What This Scholarship Covers

  • Tuition and fees coverage (Award of Achievement: $5,000–$10,000 per year up to $40,000 total for first-year students; Award of Distinction: $2,000–$4,000 per year up to $16,000 total for first-year students)
  • Tuition and fees coverage (Award of Achievement: $5,000–$8,000 per year up to $20,000 total for transfer students; Award of Distinction: $2,000–$4,000 per year up to $10,000 total for transfer students)

Who Can Apply

  • 1 Must be an international first-year or transfer student offered admission to Iowa State University
  • 2 Must be assessed international tuition rates
  • 3 Must accept offer of admission by May 1 (fall) or December 15 (spring)
  • 4 For first-year students: Selection based on holistic review of SAT/ACT scores and high school grades
  • 5 For transfer students: Must have cumulative GPA equivalent to 3.0 out of 4.0 (B average) and strong academic record with exceptional achievements in math, sciences, arts, leadership, community service, innovation, or entrepreneurship
  • 6 Must maintain minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA for renewal
  • 7 Must enroll in at least 12 credits per semester (excluding summer) for renewal
  • 8 Must remain classified as an international student for renewal
