About This Scholarship
The Cambridge-Africa ALBORADA Research Fund supports pairs of post-doctoral researchers from the University of Cambridge (or affiliated institutions) and African universities to initiate and strengthen research collaborations across all disciplines. Grants of £1,000-£25,000 are awarded competitively for research costs, training activities, and collaborative projects.
What This Scholarship Covers
- Research costs (reagents, fieldwork, equipment)
- Conducting research training activities in Africa (courses/workshops)
Who Can Apply
- 1 Both applicants must be at post-doctoral level or above
- 2 Cambridge applicant must be employed at the University of Cambridge or an affiliated research institute (Wellcome Sanger Institute, NIAB, British Antarctic Survey)
- 3 African applicant must be based in an African University or equivalent research institute
- 4 Both applicants must have an employment contract to a research group/department/faculty in their home institution
- 5 Both applicants must remain employed beyond the end date of the ALBORADA award
- 6 Both applicants must have support from their Head of Department or equivalent
- 7 True collaboration must be demonstrated; funding cannot be used for services provided by one institution on behalf of another
- 8 Limited support for post-graduate students may be considered when enhancing the relationship between PIs
