About This Scholarship

The JAPAN STUDY SUPPORT Scholarship (JPSS) is a financial aid program provided by the Government of Japan for international students who wish to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in Japanese universities. It offers 300,000 yen financial support during the first year of study to help cover tuition, living, and accommodation expenses.

Who Can Apply

  • 1 Must have a registered JPSS My Page account
  • 2 Must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a Japanese university or graduate school between September-November 2025 or April-May 2026
  • 3 Must have received a JPSS Scout message from the university
  • 4 Must be able to interview in Japanese or English
  • 5 Must hold a Japanese bank account (in applicant's name; internet banks not accepted)
  • 6 Must not be a Japanese citizen
  • 7 Must not be enrolled in preparatory courses or short-term study abroad programs

How to Apply

Register and verify your account on JPSS My Page

Apply for admission to a Japanese university

Receive a JPSS Scout message from the university

Complete the scholarship application form with basic information

Write an essay (max 350 words in English or 800 characters in Japanese) explaining why you chose the university and your strengths

Record a self-introduction video (no more than 30 seconds)

Submit application form, essay, and video via JPSS My Page before May 31, 2026, 5:00 p.m. JST

Participate in first round document screening

Participate in second round interview (Japanese or English)

Await notification of successful applicants
