About This Scholarship
The SOAS Teaching Scholarships provide a unique opportunity for eligible Black British students and students based in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East to pursue a full-time MPhil/PhD at SOAS University of London with comprehensive financial support including full tuition waiver and maintenance stipend. Recipients gain valuable teaching experience during their studies and develop essential academic skills while addressing inequalities in doctoral education.

Who Can Apply
- 1 Be a permanent resident in the UK with Home fee status from Black ethnic groups (Black or Black British African, Black or Black British Caribbean, Black or Black British other, or Mixed Black or Black British), OR be ordinarily resident in Africa, Asia, or the Middle East
- 2 Have an offer of admission to a full-time MPhil/PhD programme at SOAS for the 2026/27 academic year
- 3 Meet English language requirements of your offer by 10 May 2026 if applicable
- 4 Submit a widening participation statement (maximum 800 words) outlining eligibility and how the scholarship will benefit your career or community
- 5 Not hold another major scholarship or studentship at the same time
- 6 For the reserved Palestinian national scholarship: be an ordinary resident of historic Palestine (Gaza Strip, West Bank, East Jerusalem, or Palestinian citizens in Israel) and meet general candidate criteria
