About This Scholarship
The MATS Residency Winter 2027 is a fully funded research program supporting talented individuals from around the world to pursue ambitious research and safety-relevant projects focused on reducing catastrophic risks from advanced artificial intelligence. The program evaluates applicants based on the quality and potential impact of their work rather than conventional academic credentials, and offers office locations in London, Berkeley, and Washington, DC with visa support for international participants.

Who Can Apply
- 1 Must demonstrate strong research ability and potential to produce meaningful AI safety work
- 2 Not required to have a PhD or master's degree
- 3 Not required to have a formal researcher job title or extensive publication record
- 4 Not required to have previous AI safety experience
- 5 Must be able to work on AI safety research, safety-relevant projects, or incubation initiatives
- 6 Must submit a research plan or project plan describing proposed work and its theory of change
