About This Scholarship
A 3.5-year fully funded PhD studentship jointly offered by the University of St Andrews and the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, combining 21 months of research in Germany with the remaining period at the University of St Andrews in the UK. The programme focuses on understanding social and environmental determinants of health and socio-economic outcomes during adolescence and emerging adulthood using advanced quantitative methods and longitudinal analysis.
What This Scholarship Covers
- Gross annual salary of approximately €40,000 during Germany phase
- Annual bonus payments (Sonderzahlung) during Germany phase
- Funding support for travel
- Research training support
- Data acquisition funding
- Annual maintenance stipend of £19,775 during UK phase (subject to increase for 2026/27)
- Research Training Support Grant (RTSG) of £750 per year during UK phase
- Full tuition fee waiver for UK phase
Who Can Apply
- 1 Must hold an excellent Master's degree with distinction, merit, or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline
- 2 Should have a strong academic background
- 3 Should have strong analytical skills and interests in population studies, epidemiology, public health, statistics, sociology, geography, economics, or data science
- 4 Must meet postgraduate research entry requirements of the University of St Andrews
- 5 Must be able to enroll in the International Max Planck Research School for Population, Health and Data Science (IMPRS-PHDS)
