About This Scholarship

The Clinician PhD Scholarship is a pilot program designed to attract and support clinicians of all disciplines to undertake a higher degree by research at Flinders University’s College of Medicine and Public Health or College of Health and Enablement. The scholarship provides a tax-free stipend of $50,000 per annum for up to 3.5 years of full-time doctoral study.

Who Can Apply

  • 1 Must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident of Australia, or New Zealand citizen
  • 2 Must be currently admitted or eligible for admission to a full-time PhD at Flinders University
  • 3 Must be enrolled full-time in a Higher Degree by Research at Flinders University
  • 4 For College of Medicine and Public Health PhD: must be focused in medicine, biomedical sciences, or public health
  • 5 For College of Health and Enablement PhD: must be focused in nursing, midwifery, or allied health
  • 6 Medical professionals must be registered to practise in Australia at time of application with no conditions or suspensions preventing practice
  • 7 Allied health professionals must be registered to practise in Australia at time of application (with AHPRA, AHPA, or National Alliance of Self-Regulating Health Professions) with no conditions or suspensions preventing practice
  • 8 For allied health professions not requiring registration, must provide evidence of authority to practise
  • 9 Must not be in receipt of an award that directly duplicates the purpose of the Clinician PhD Scholarship Program (e.g., Australian Government Research Training Program PhD scholarship, Flinders University Research Scholarship, or privately funded PhD scholarship)
  • 10 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clinicians and rural and remote clinicians are encouraged to apply

How to Apply

Register and submit application online through Flinders University scholarship portal

Provide evidence of current or eligible admission to full-time PhD at Flinders University

Submit academic records and evidence of research achievement

Provide evidence of professional registration or authority to practise in Australia

Identify principal PhD supervisor who must be a member of staff in the relevant College or hold full academic status with the relevant College

Submit research project proposal

Applications are ranked by selection committee using NHMRC criteria based on academic record and research achievement relative to opportunity (60%), research environment and supervisor (20%), and research project (20%)
